Confidential Resources

  • Be Well at Work - Employee Assistance(link is external)(Confidential): Employee Assistance provides no-cost confidential counseling and referral for UC Berkeley faculty, staff, visiting scholars, and postdocs. It is also the employee assistance program for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
  • Counseling and Psychological Services(link is external) (CAPS) (Confidential): Supports the emotional, psychological, educational, social and cultural development of all UC Berkeley students through a wide range of multiculturally based counseling, psychiatric, career, consultation, training and educational services.
    • Students with urgent needs should call (510) 642-9494 to speak with a counselor from Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
    • After-hours support line at (855) 817-5667.
  • Faculty Ombuds(link is external) (Confidential): The Faculty Ombuds role is a confidential, informal, impartial resource for faculty experiencing work-related problems and conflicts. The Faculty Ombuds assists faculty in finding non-confrontational solutions to problems involving other members of the University. 
  • Ombuds Office for Students & Postdoctoral Appointees(link is external) (Confidential): Can be your first step, your last resort, or anything in between. If you wish assistance sorting through a campus-related conflict or concern, please contact them. The Ombudsperson will listen to your concerns, serve as a sounding board, discuss your options with you, and help you get a new perspective and determine the next steps to take.
  • PATH to Care Center(link is external) (Confidential): Leads efforts to transform our campus into a community that is free of sexual violence, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, and stalking through prevention, advocacy, training, and healing.

  • Social Services, University Health Services (Confidential): Compassionate, specialty counseling. Our topic-specific confidential counseling services aim to help students strengthen coping skills, problem-solve, and identify resources. Social Services is open to all registered UC Berkeley students regardless of their insurance plan. 
  • Staff Ombuds Office(link is external) (Confidential): Provides a confidential place for employees to discuss and clarify concerns, identify options, and discover problem-solving strategies to constructively navigate and overcome workplace disputes and problems.  

Campus Resources

There are many resources on campus to support community members (faculty and other academic appointees, staff, postdoctoral appointees, graduate/professional students, undergraduate students, and others). While the number of offices on this list can be overwhelming, know that you can start with any of the offices that seem appropriate and they will redirect you if needed.

  • ASUC Student Advocate's OfficeA student-run office that provides peer-to-peer assistance with issues regarding the University. The office has four divisions: Academic, Conduct, Financial, and Grievance.
  • Basic Needs CenterActs as a virtual and physical hub that provides and connects students to essential services that impact health, belonging, and overall well-being. We define basic needs as an ecosystem that at the core includes food security, housing security, and financial stability.
  • Basic Needs Food PantryAn emergency relief program that is designed to meet the short-term food security needs of the UC Berkeley community, which includes all UC Berkeley students (undergraduate and graduate), staff, visiting scholars, student researchers, postdocs, and faculty who need food.

  • Berkeley International OfficeEnhances the academic experiences of international students and scholars by providing the highest levels of knowledge and expertise in advising, immigration services, advocacy, and programming to the UC Berkeley campus community.
  • Be Well at Work - Disability ManagementProvides consultative services to faculty and staff with respect to disability issues impacting work.

  • Center for Support and InterventionAddresses prevention and intervention for harm and violence on campus, and provides support and case management to students experiencing or causing distress in the campus community.
  • Center for Teaching and LearningPartners with campus educators -- including faculty, students, and staff -- to inspire, enrich, and innovate Berkeley's collective teaching and learning community. 
  • Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3): The mission of CE3 is to ensure non-traditional students excel at Berkeley, grouped in three broad categories: access and opportunity, independent student, and transfer student programs.
  • Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP)
  • A program for students in recovery from substance use as well as those who are currently struggling with alcohol and drug use.

  • Disability Access & Compliance (DAC): Connects the UC Berkeley community with the resources, training, evaluative tools, and services that support equal access to students, staff, faculty, and visitors with disabilities to participate in university-sponsored non-course-related programs or activities. 
  • Disabled Students' Program (DSP): Provides services to meet the unique educational needs of regularly enrolled students with permanent or temporary disabilities. 
  • Office of Environment, Health, and Safety: Provides guidance and services to the campus community that promote health, safety, and environmental stewardship. 
  • Facilities Customer Service CenterProvides a wide range of services including, but not limited to, emergency response assistance, triage for all Facilities Services’ units, work order creation and various customer support functions.

  • Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq): Committed to fostering an inclusive Cal experience for all. GenEq is the campus location where students, faculty, staff and alumni connect for resources, services, education and leadership programs related to gender and sexuality.
  • GSI Teaching and Resource Center: An academic unit of the Graduate Division that prepares graduate students for teaching undergraduates at UC Berkeley and for the teaching they will do in future academic and nonacademic careers.
  • Harm Reduction Expansion ProjectCo-sponsored by The Collegiate Recovery Program and PartySafe@Cal, the Harm Reduction Expansion Project seeks to expand existing harm reduction information, training and resources to address risks of potential fentanyl contamination.
  • Health PromotionAdvances the health and well-being of UC Berkeley students through individual and environmental initiatives, such as academic courses, individual appointments, workshops, volunteer and internship opportunities, and consultation and training.
  • The LOOP: A golf cart that provides intra-campus rides for eligible faculty, staff, and students with disabilities on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Night Safety Services: Include BearWalk escortnight shuttle buses, and a door-to-door service
  • Office for Faculty Equity and Welfare (OFEW): Supports the full participation in academic careers for all scholars, through overseeing and promoting equitable hiring practices, supporting faculty relocation, and supporting faculty over the arc of their careers, including into retirement.
  • Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD): Committed to fostering a campus climate in which members of our community are protected from all forms of discrimination and harassment. We bring a lens of equity and intersectionality to our work of monitoring compliance with nondiscrimination policies, resolving concerns fairly, and helping campus communities create inclusive environments.

  • Student Parent CenterProvides core services such as academic advising and counseling, peer support, clinical mental health counseling/family services and childcare referral services, which allow student parents both formal and holistic leverage to succeed without being impeded by undue hardship.
  • UC Whistleblower HotlineConfidential means for reporting suspected misconduct.
  • UCPD at BerkeleyHas the primary responsibility and authority to provide public safety and law enforcement services upon the Berkeley campus and its satellite properties.

  • Undocumented Student ProgramProvides guidance and support to undocumented undergraduate students at UC Berkeley.
