Reportal

This section of Supportal is designed for anyone who has a concern they would like to report to a University office. This is also a tool for UC Berkeley employees who are seeking to understand their options and obligations in terms of reporting concerns.

Reporting options by topic

Abusive conduct in the workplace reporting

Informal summary: The UC Policy on Abusive Conduct in the Workplace prohibits abusive conduct (e.g. bullying) by employees in the workplace. Abusive conduct is harassing or threatening behavior that is severe, persistent, or pervasive.

Child abuse and neglect reporting (CANRA)

The UC Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect policy requires certain employees and volunteers, known as Mandated Reporters, to report observed or suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities and their supervisor, submit an internal report to the University, and complete a CANRA report within 36 hours.

Crime reporting (including Clery crimes)

Informal summary: Under the federal Clery Act, people with campus security responsibilities must report those crimes covered by the Clery Act (including but not limited to motor vehicle theft, robbery, burglary, hazing, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking) for inclusion in the daily crime log and annual statistical reporting. lease see the Clery Act Compliance website for a comprehensive list of Clery crimes and definitions.

Hazing

Informal summary: This campus policy prohibits hazing of students in the activities of campus organizations, including but not limited to student organizations, teams, clubs, committees, and academic and administrative units. The policy also outlines reporting responsibilities and training program requirements.

Improper governmental activity reporting (Whistleblower)

Informal summary: If you suspect that a UC employee is engaged in improper governmental activities, you can report ("blow the whistle"). Improper governmental activity includes, but is not limited to, corruption, bribery, fraud, or the waste or misuse of University resources. Other kinds of misconduct can also be reported to the UC Whistleblower Hotline.

Protected Category discrimination and harassment reporting

Informal summary: The UC Anti-Discrimination Policy prohibits harassment and discrimination based on an individual’s actual or perceived Protected Category, as well as retaliation. Protected Categories include but are not limited to race, religion, citizenship, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, sex (including pregnancy and related medical conditions), gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, age, and veteran or military status.

Sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) reporting

Informal summary: The UC SVSH Policy prohibits sexual violence and sexual harassment, including but not limited to sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence (dating and domestic violence), stalking, sexual exploitation, invasions of sexual privacy. Non-confidential employees of the University must notify OPHD if they learn, in the course of employment, about an incident of Prohibited Conduct.

Workplace serious injury or illness

Workplace violence reporting

Informal summary: Violence, and threats of violence, are prohibited in the University of California, Berkeley workplace. Anyone who observes such behavior or believes a credible threat of such behavior exists, or is a victim of such conduct, is encouraged to immediately report it to the University. Managers and supervisors who observe or learn of such conduct are required to report it to the University.

Can't find your concern listed above?

Please report it to the UC Whistleblower Hotline. Your report will be reviewed and referred to the appropriate office. 

Reporting requirements by role

Manager or Supervisor

If you are a manager or a supervisor (this includes chairs, deans, and faculty who supervise student employees), you must report:

  • Conduct, by anyone, that is prohibited under the SVSH policy affecting anyone affiliated with campus (more information)
  • Conduct, by anyone, that is prohibited under the Anti-Discrimination policy affecting anyone affiliated with campus (more information).
  • Conduct, by an employee, that is prohibited under the Abusive Conduct in the Workplace policy (more information)
  • Violence or threats of workplace violence in the workplace (more information)
  • Serious injury or illness of employeesin the workplace (more information)
  • Improper government activity (more information)

Faculty member

If you are a faculty member, you must report:

  • Conduct, by anyone, that is prohibited under the SVSH policy affecting anyone affiliated with campus (more information)
  • Conduct, by anyone, that is prohibited under the Anti-Discrimination policy affecting anyone affiliated with campus. (more information).

Campus Security Authorities (Clery Act)

If you are a Campus Security Authority (CSA), you must report any Clery crimes you witness or learn about. (more Information)

Mandated Reporters under CANRA

If you are a Mandated Reporter, you must report:

  • Suspected child abuse or neglect, or the imminent threat of harm to a minor. (more information)

All other employees

All employees who are not designated Confidential Resources must report:

  • Conduct prohibited under the SVSH policy affecting a student. (more information)

Please note: Many people may fall into more than one of the categories above. For example, a faculty member could be a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and a Responsible Employee. Please be sure to check any category that might apply to you.
